Statement of Accessibility

Smithtown Orthodontics is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible. That includes people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology.

The standard we work to

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. They are published by the World Wide Web Consortium. They are the accepted benchmark for making web content perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That means most of the site meets the standard. Some content does not yet fully meet it. We would rather say so plainly than claim a level of conformance nobody has verified.

What we have done

During the rebuild of this website we have worked to:

  • Provide meaningful alternative text for images that carry information
  • Use a heading structure that reflects the actual organization of each page
  • Maintain sufficient contrast between text and background
  • Make interactive elements reachable and usable with a keyboard
  • Write descriptive link text rather than “click here”
  • Ensure text can be resized without content being lost or overlapping
  • Present forms with labels that assistive technology can read

Known limitations

We know about the following, and we are working on them:

PDF documents. Our patient forms are supplied as PDFs. Older PDFs may not be fully tagged for screen readers. If you cannot access a form, call us at (631) 265-3666. We will take your information over the phone, or provide an accessible alternative.

Third-party content. Some elements of this site come from outside services. That includes our appointment form, our patient review display, and embedded maps and video. We do not control how those services are built. If one of them creates a barrier, tell us. We will find another way to give you the same information.

Accessibility at our office

The office at 200 E Main St. is on the ground floor. There is off-street parking at the building. If you have a mobility, sensory, or communication need we should know about, tell us when you book. We will make arrangements.

Tell us about a problem

If you hit a barrier on this website, we want to hear about it. The same goes if you need information from it in another format.
