Smithtown Orthodontics is located at 200 E Main St. in Smithtown, in the Colonial Building on Route 25, a few doors east of the Village Commons. Dr. Duane Shank, a board-certified orthodontist, has treated patients here since 1991. Consultations are free, and the office is open five days a week including early mornings and Tuesday evenings.
If you have driven along East Main Street past Town Hall, you have passed the office. It has been in the same building for over three decades, which in a town where families stay put for generations turns out to matter more than any amount of advertising.
Smithtown Orthodontics 200 E Main St. Smithtown, NY 11787 (631) 265-3666
The office is in the Colonial Building at 200 E Main St., on the north side of Route 25. There is off-street parking at the building, and the Village Commons lot at 18 to 80 East Main St. is a short walk east if the building lot is full. The entrance is at ground level.
From the Smithtown Bypass (Route 347). Take 347 to the Route 25 junction at the west end of Smithtown, then head east on East Main Street. The office is past Town Hall on the left. This is how most patients coming from Hauppauge, Nesconset, and Lake Grove arrive.
From the North Shore (Route 25A). Follow 25A south through St. James into Smithtown, where it merges with Route 25. Continue west a short distance on East Main Street. This is the natural route from St. James, Head of the Harbor, and Nissequogue.
From Kings Park. Take the Sunken Meadow Parkway south to Route 25A, then follow 25A into Smithtown and pick up East Main Street. Allow about fifteen minutes.
From Commack. Jericho Turnpike east becomes Route 25 through Smithtown. Continue east through the village center; the office is past Town Hall.
Dr. Shank treats children, teenagers, and adults, and he plans and adjusts every case himself. This is a specialty practice, so orthodontics is the only thing done here.
Most patients come from Smithtown itself, and from the hamlets around it: St. James and Nesconset, both under ten minutes; Kings Park and Hauppauge, in the Town of Smithtown; Lake Grove down Route 347; and Commack to the west. Nearly every family in the Smithtown Central School District is inside a fifteen-minute drive.
The office sits close to several schools. Smithtown High School East is about a mile and a half away. Accompsett Middle School and Great Hollow Middle School are both within two miles, Smithtown High School West about four, and St. Patrick School under a mile. Dr. Shank sponsors teams at four of those schools and has sponsored local Little League for thirty years.
Nothing. The initial consultation is free, and it is a real examination rather than a sales appointment. Dr. Shank looks at the teeth, tells you whether treatment is needed, explains the options, and gives you the fee in writing. If nothing needs doing yet, he will say so and ask you to come back in a year.
If treatment is right for you, the practice runs in-house payment plans with no interest starting around $150 a month, accepts most dental insurance plans (though it is not in-network), and accepts HSA and FSA funds.
Call (631) 265-3666 or request an appointment online. If you are an existing patient with a problem between appointments, call during office hours and we will fit you in.
